Mark Fisher: Drawing Entertainment
Saturday, 11 September 2021

A talk and panel discussion about the work by Mark Fisher and his design for Roger Waters The Wall – Live in Berlin (1990), accompanying the exhibition at the Tchoban Foundation. Museum for Architectural Drawing

Mark Fisher (1947–2013) was a legendary entertainment architect of rock sets and spectaculars. He created dazzling and innovative shows for the tours of the most famous singers and groups of our time including Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Pink Floyd, Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson and Jean-Michel Jarre, as well as outdoor extravaganzas for Walt Disney World and Cirque du Soleil. Trained at the Architectural Association school of architecture in London in the 1960s, Fisher was taught by members of the famously influential and visionary Archigram Group who revolutionised futuristic design.

In Germany and around the world, Mark Fisher is celebrated as the designer who conceived the giant stage set for Roger Waters’s legendary The Wall – Live in Berlin concert, which took place nine months after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, amidst the ruins of the former no-man’s land between Potsdamer Platz and Brandenburg Gate.

Accompanying the exhibition of Mark Fisher's works at the Tchoban Foundation. Museum for Architectural Drawing, musicologist Michael Rauhut, the show’s curator Neil Bingham and Fisher’s wife and fellow architect Cristina Garcia discussed his work and legacy with Tim Renner.
